Today was our first doctor’s appointment. We went to see Dr. Guyton at Lake Murray Pediatrics. They are wonderful there. We could not ask for a more caring individual to help look after and make sure our little angel is healthy and growing. At the appointment, Christian weighed in at 5 lbs 14 oz. Oh my gosh, is this normal to lose that much weight when a new baby comes home? When we left the hospital Christian weighed 6 lbs 8 oz. and now he is 5 lbs 14 oz. Talk about a worried mother especially since we are having issues with the whole breastfeeding thing. He also was also a little more jaundice than when we left the hospital. Dr. G told us to feed him by the window with no clothes on and this would help get his pale white color back. Most premature and diabetic babies are born jaundice and since Christian was both he got a two for one deal. Sorry little fellow! However, everything else looked great with Christian according to Dr. G. We go back in two weeks. Hopefully we will regain our weight and lose that yellow color.
Later on today the lactationist from Lexington hospital called and asked about our little man. I told her his weight and she was very worried about it. Okay, Okay…what is it…is it okay that he lost that much weight or is it not okay? Now, talk about an emotional new mother. I think I cry all the time when things are not going right for my little monkey. Of course, I want to make sure that things are going great and everything is okay with him. However, when you get mixed messaged from two different doctors you get a little worried. So, the lactationist gave me lots of tips for breastfeeding him and wants us to come and see her on Monday to get a new weight and to see how he feeds. Hopefully the tips will work and he will begin to start feeding better. Keep us in your prayers.

So we went to see the lactationist today…Great News…he weighted 6 lbs 5 oz. when we first arrived. After his feeding he weighed 6 lbs 7 oz. YEAH, the tips worked. Hopefully we will continue to feed well and gain more and more weight. Thanks for the tips Mrs. R.
