HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRISTIAN!
That is right, our baby boy, Christian Bailey Spivey, was born today. Can you believe it? 37 weeks ago, I was telling Shaun that we were pregnant and going to have a baby. His due date was supposed to be the 15th of December; however, Christian decided to bless us with his presence earlier. The greatest thing is that he came on his own. I just can’t believe that he is here already. It seems like just yesterday we found out the wonderful news.
It all started around 3:30 on Monday morning. I was lying in bed asleep when I woke up with these awful cramps (they felt like menstrual cramps). When I got up I felt a little flow of water. I was not sure what just happened…did I just pee a little bit? Or was that my water that broke? Who knew? When I went to the restroom I noticed a bloody show in the toilet. What that my mucous plug? Or is it normal to have that? Once again, who knew? I went back to bed and started to time those crampy feelings…they were about 10 minutes apart. Shaun woke up and asked me if I was okay and why I was tossing and turning and getting up and down. I told him that I was not sure but I thought that I might be in labor. We called the doctor and he said to continue to time the contractions and when they got about 4 to 5 minutes apart to head to the hospital. We went back to bed and started timing and trying to sleep a little bit. Around 5:30 I got back up to go to the restroom and this time there was a greater flow of water that was released. I woke Shaun up and said that I thought my water had broken. He asked why and I said because the bed is wet and I know I did not pee in the bed…ha. We both got up after this and started to get ready. I went to the kitchen and ate some breakfast (I knew I would not be able to eat again for a while). Then I finished packing our bags, took a shower, and got dressed. Once we were dressed the contractions were about 7 minutes apart. We made some phone calls and then headed to the hospital when the contractions were about 6 minutes apart. I was a little worried about waiting too long because of my fluid being low (not sure if that was an issue or not and did not want to risk anything). By the time we got to the hospital the contractions were 5 minutes apart. What great timing.
We arrived at the hospital around 8:30 and were admitted to the hospital around 10:09(once they tested to see if I had ruptured…I had). Here are the stats for the day:
Total Labor: 11 hrs and 37 minutes
Active Labor: 2 hrs and 10 minutes
Pushing Time: 42 minutes
12:00 pm: 4 cm and 100% effaced
2:10 pm: 9.5 cm and 100% effaced
2:55 pm: 10 cm and ready to deliver
He is Here!!!
Christian Bailey Spivey was born at 3:42 pm. He weighed 6 lbs and 10 oz. He was 19.4 inches long. He had a head full of reddish-blonde hair. He had dark blue eyes.
