Updates: Ear Infections, Bottom and Skin Irritation, and Temperatures

I bet you are thinking 1. Where have you been? 2. What is going on with monkey man? and 3. Why are there SO MANY updates? Well, it has been a rough two weeks. First off we just finished school today so....SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER! YEAH! Second, Christian has put himself and us through the ringer these last two weeks with MYSTERIOUS illnesses where we still don't know what happened or what is still going on. Let me start from the beginning...

Two weeks ago, Christian got an ear infection. Dr. G. put Christian on amoxicillin (which he will NOT take again) to help cure his ear infection. Well, that turned into lots of nasty diapers that turned into an ugly, awful, miserable yeast infection on his bottom. The infection on his bottom was so bad that he could not sit down, he would not go to the bathroom (held it in because he was scared to get his diaper changed), and his bottom started bleeding. OMG, my poor baby. We talked to Dr. G. and his nurse many times each day about his bottom and what we could do to help him...let's just say that I made MANY stops to Walgreens in three days with different over the counter home remedies. NONE OF THEM WORKED.

One of Shaun's co-workers gave us some medicated ointment that worked wonders on his bottom. It cleared it up in one might. It is amazing stuff. However, what I have not told you yet is that while all this with his bottom was happening he also started to break out in a rash all over his body. It first started as a red, splotchy rash that covered his back and his stomach. After I gave him an oatmeal bath (over the counter home remedy) to help clear up his bottom, his rash broke out into hives...it looked like he had been attached by mosquitoes all over his body. They stayed for about two days and then went back to the red, splotchy rash.

Even with his crazy bottom and rash we headed to Garden City for Memorial Day. We thought that if nothing else was clearing this stuff up maybe a little sea salt and just a good old "get away" would. We got down there right when it was time for Christian to go to bed, so with his rash and his bottom looking better we sent him off to bed. When he woke up the next morning...it was ALL GONE...rash and bottom. Gosh, it was just the beach air that did wonders. NOT SO MUCH. On Saturday afternoon Christian got a temperature of 102.2. Where was this coming from now? By Sunday night his temperature got up to 103.6...not much of good old "get away."

However, on Monday morning he woke up with NO rash, no temperature, and a clear bottom. We were on our way to greatness. Things were running smoothly until Wednesday when the red, splotchy rash came back. I just don't get it...nothing has changed...no new detergent, no new soap, no new nothing. What is causing this? Well, we wanted to find out, so today we went to get a food and environmental allergy test done. THAT WAS FUN! Needles, blood, and an 18 month old...I am sure you can imagine.

During the testing, the nurse started on the right arm. She found his vein, stuck him with the needle, and then a little bit of blood started flowing. The blood then stopped because Christian vein blew. So, she had to start again on his left arm. She found the vein, stuck him with the needle and NOTHING happened because his vein blew immediately. REALLY! So, we have to go back on Monday to do this testing all over again...FUN!

As you can see our SUMMER BREAK is not starting out so good. Please pray for us!

Oh Donna...he was in amazingly good spirits at the splash pad considering everything he encountered. I hope you find out what is going on with your little monkey soon. At least you will not have the stress of school plus this to worry about. Good to see you guys today! :)
